10 Questions with "The Captain"
My name is Steven Kernohan and I am Chief Whistleblower and annoying person here at BTR and i am going to profile a new member of our Trail Running Community every week just to find out all the important stuff about everyone!!!!!!
Nickname....... Don't really have a Nickname but to my parents was always Ned, as we'd go up to Brisbane every Christmas and my rellies always called me Kelly, typical of my fathers humour.
Country of Origin........Australian born and bred (Richmond around the same time Richmond Football Club was being flogged by Collingwood, starting a lifetime love of AFL and Richmond and hatred of Collingwood).
Shoes of Choice......For years for Marathons was ASICS DS Racers, Nowadays Nike Lunaracers or Frees. Trails Pearl Izumi while they still exist, in truth probably spend more of my life with thongs on my feet but have never ran a race in them
Most Memorable Race.......First Official win Tamborine Trek 1995, knowing i had to keep Gary Parsons (who had just set the world record for 1000 Miles, behind me by a certain time as we started at different times). Back then was a 68.8 KM race from Macintosh Island (Surfers Paradise) to Mount Tamborine and back.
Favourite Food......Years of enjoying too much of my answer to number 7, means i need my food spicey, so a good Indian Curry, just not the night before a race.
Bucket List Race.......Hard to answer that, reckon i'm better off doing multi day so possibly a Trans America if it ever happens again, or a Melbourne to Sydney if it ever becomes an official race again (very highly unlikely).
Drink of Choice......Alcoholic Drink: Bundy Rum, although it doesn't always like me, probably doesn't help that i drink it either straight or with Pineapple Juice. Non Alcoholic Solo Lemon Squash or Lemon Cordial
Favourite Trail or Race......Too many i love, from a race point of view Six Foot Track in the Blue Mountains. From just a trail some of the ones up Lamington National Park and i'll always have a soft spot for Mount Warning which i've probably been up 80 odd times. Overseas anywhere around Lake Tahoe.
Must watch TV Shows.......Nowadays nothing too much reality etc, Gruen would be as good as it gets and always the Simpsons. Favourite TV show ever was on SBS years ago La Piovra (The Octopus), Sicilian Mafia, better even than the Sopranos another favourite.
If you could host a dinner party and invite any 5 people you'd like (dead or alive, fictional characters, anyone) who would it be..........Cliff Young, Kevin Bartlett, Bob Hawke, Don Bradman, Errol Flynn. Reckon that would be a fun party, Bob and Errol on the booze i guess but still....And yes i'm still trying to work out how to squeeze Keith Richards onto my dinner party list, maybe i'll substitute him for Errol Flynn
